A Poem About The Power of Words (...and The Word)
by Robert Gresak
(South Africa)
WORDSStanding each alone, are still as stone and like babes, innocent. Summoned by an ingenious mind they are a thunderous mob inflamed with violence or in the hands of a gentle master they are as sheep browsing on a lovely hillside permeating the air with deep peace.
Words can truly a life make-or break, bring hope and comfort or cause one to forsake enduring values for the transient.
Look therefore to your daily speech, let your words convey kindness and wisdom. Watch and guard the tongue against irritation, slay the devil of vexation.

Dear Robert, I had just been reading a series of bible quotes on the Word when your poem arrived!
Your wonderful poem reminds me of this:
“For the word of God is living and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart.” (Hebrews 4:12, NIV Bible)
Double-edged. As your poem says, our words have the power to hurt and to heal.
... and many others.
This is one of my favourite bible quotes on the Word:
“Thy words were found, and I did eat them; and thy word was unto me the joy and rejoicing of mine heart: for I am called by thy name, O LORD God of hosts.” (Jeremiah 15:16, Bible KJV)
We are called by God’s name. We are children of God. How great is that. The more we know it, the more our words (and thoughts) communicate to others that they too are children of God.
Thank you Robert.
