What Is The Placebo Effect ? What Is The Nocebo Effect? How Are They Used In The Lightning Process?

A placebo is a substance that has no medicinal quality. It is often made of chalk. When a trial for a treatment is undergone, the group of volunteers is split into 2 groups. One is given the real treatment – usually a drug. The other group, called the control group, is given a placebo. Neither group knows what they have been given. Time and time again it is observed that a proportion of the people who take the placebo show some level of improvement. It is normally thought to be about 35% of the volunteers who will show this improvement. But with certain illnesses, such as heart disease and Parkinson’s Disease, the placebo effect is observed as being particularly strong and is quite close to the improvement amongst the group receiving the tested treatment. The placebo effect clearly demonstrates that we can influence our immune system through our beliefs. It is so universally accepted in science that our minds play a part in healing, that every experiment is designed to include a group that take a placebo. Over and over again the placebo demonstrates that we can be healed or harmed purely through the power of belief.
Along with the placebo effect, there is the nocebo effect. This effect shows that negative health can come about through subconscious beliefs and expectations. Let me give an example: A random control trial was done to test a chemotherapy treatment. One group was given the chemotherapy. The other was given no chemotherapy although they believed they had been given it. 40% of these people lost most of their body hair. 40%! And they had had no chemotherapy whatsoever. Amazing eh! Simply because they had a powerful expectation that they would do so. But how does this belief in the placebo effect work? (Or the nocebo effect) It is not to do with conscious belief. To say that someone who is ill wants to be ill is simplistic and insulting to those suffering ill health – many of whom are trying so hard to be well. Phil Parker points out in his book An Introduction To The Lightning Process - the complete strategy for success that if you had asked any of these people to make their hair fall out, they could not have done so. They did not do it through conscious belief but through the power of subconscious belief.
So where does that leave us as people wanting to deliberately improve our immune systems? Consciously you want to get well. Why else would you have made it this far in this article? How do I make it so that subconsciously I also want to get well? In other words, how do I align my conscious and subconscious mind? How to use a placebo to positively affect my health? How do I find the placebo that is right for me? The Lightning Process uses techniques of hypnotherapy to access the subconscious mind. The Lightning Process incorporates many other techniques over a 3 day period to raise our belief that healing is possible and possible quickly. (Just a note to say that many other techniques are also working to use this placebo effect – the observed impact of the power of belief – to influence our health.) In fact, just by visiting this website - a website by someone who is walking and talking after 14 years of not being able to do so, you are expanding your belief that healing is possible for you. Imagine if you knew lots of people who recovered after a long time or after a very serious illness. Your expectation of healing would go up with each one.
A Poem about Healing and The Placebo Effect The Placebo EffectLet the placebo effect work for me: Let me believe this heals me and it does.
It’s OK to believe so strongly that something has a certain effect that it leads your subconscious to bring it about. “Yet God Himself has protected everything He created by His laws. Everything that is not under them does not exist.” (T-10.IV.4, ACIM)
