The Hostage Experience Can Validate Experiences With Illness Of Isolation, Hardship And Uncertainty For years whilst I was ill, on most days I spent 22 hours or more alone. The time I was with others was usually only the time when carers were feeding me. I could talk little. The isolation of not being able to talk is an experience that most cannot relate to. Later on in the illness, I read Terry Waite’s account of being kept hostage. Although very different experiences, there was an overlap in some of the experiences: - imprisonment
- isolation
- being at the mercy of others’ treatment
- lack of control over what would happen next
- facing death each day
I thought that Anthony’s Grey new book might be of interest to some of you. The experience of being a hostage propelled him on a spiritual journey that has led to what he calls "the wonderful, joyous insights and deep fulfilment of A Course in Miracles".
